There’s so much to do over the holidays in our part of Southern Vermont… rather than type it all up ourselves, we’re going to quote directly from our local newspaper, The Deerfield Valley News:

The holidays have arrived and the Deerfield Valley is not dreaming of a white Christmas. It’s here. Mother Nature dumped 20 inches of snow in 10 days and visitors from all over will ski, dine, relax, and much more. Area businesses and Mount Snow ski resort are teaming up with fun activities guaranteed to make this year’s Christmas and New Year’s celebrations special.

On December 28, Dover, Whitingham, and Wilmington will light up the night with holiday luminaries. The Valley Lights celebration invites individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to recycle their tin cans and make luminaries out of them that will be used to decorate the valley throughout the winter. Sleigh rides are back at the Adams Family Farm in Wilmington.

On Christmas Eve, weather permitting, the farm will offer a sleigh ride journey into the backwoods to an old log cabin where people can warm up by wood fires, enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and sing Christmas carols at the piano.

The 2007-2008 ski season is well underway and already Mount Snow is having one of their best starts in years. The mountain opened for business November 10 and the new fan guns were instrumental in the early opening. On top of that is the natural snow and lots of it. Skiers are rejoicing after last year’s dismal start to the season. According to Meri Spicer, Mount Snow director of marketing, all trails will be open by Christmas weekend and all three terrain parks will open the following week. Spicer said the phones are ringing off the hook, overnight reservation bookings are up, and this year’s Christmas weekend will be one of the busiest ever.

On Saturday, December 29, the annual torchlight parade and fireworks will take place at Mount Snow. Mount Snow Ski & Snowboard School instructors will descend Standard trail amidst torchlight glow, followed by a spectacular fireworks display to light up the night sky. Festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. and the best views can be seen from between the Clock Tower and Cape House.

On Sunday, December 30, Mount Snow will also kick off the first kids’ competition of the season. The Grommett Jam series gives snowboarders 12 and under an opportunity to learn more about snowboarding with Mount Snow coaches and ski school instructors and to take part in a snowboarding competition with an awards ceremony and raffle.

For a rocking old time [sic: on New Year's Eve], the Snow Barn will have a 21+ party featuring the popular band from Boston, the Chicken Slacks. Taking cues from the classic soul and funk greats like Otis Redding, James Brown, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke, the Slacks have developed a reputation as one of the top club acts in the Boston area. The Snow Barn hosts one of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties in the Deerfield Valley and organizers say the event is sure to sell out soon. Tickets are $25 and on sale now at the Snow Barn and Mount Snow Web site.

Mount Snow spent $3.5 million in snowmaking technology and equipment during the off season, and it’s already starting to pay off. Mount Snow opened earlier today, offering the only top-to-bottom skiing in New England. By midday, hundreds of skiers and snowboarders had come to the mountain for its earliest opening day in ten years.

The mountain’s nine open trails–many of which you can see right from the large windows here at the Inn–featured two top-to-bottom runs for intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders, a lift-serviced beginner area, and more than 10 terrain park features for freestyle skiers and riders. Overnight temperatures are forecasted to remain cold enough through the weekend to continue making snow and possibly expand terrain in time for the Veteran’s Day holiday on Monday.

If you need a quality room at the base of the mountain AND a convenient place to stay this weekend, or next weekend (or anytime for that matter), send us an email message, give us call or check out our online reservation page.Cold temperatures and the upgraded snowmaking equipment combined to give the resort its earliest opening since November 7, 1998. No other ski resort in Vermont is scheduled to open until the following week.

Greetings, and thanks for stopping by. The Inn at Mount Snow is pleased to be joining the Blogosphere. Here, you will find all sorts of information and updates about our property, special offers, ski conditions and more. In fact, we really dig this whole blogging thing, so don’t be too surprised if we do it a lot.

To get us started, here’s a little bit about us and what you can expect once the Blog gets up to full steam:

About The Inn at Mount Snow: While our website says it all, we’re at the base of the Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vermont, and do everything possible to be your home away from home when visiting southern Vermont. Our 14 recently renovated guest rooms, complimentary hot country breakfast and WiFi access, along with convenient location to the Mount Snow Resort and superior customer service, are just the beginning to an amazing visit to the Mount Snow region. Whether you choose to curl up with a book by the fireplace in our generous living room, or spend the entire day skiing, golfing, shopping, or mountain biking, we have exactly what you’re looking for.

About the Innkeeper: The Inn at Mount Snow is operated by Glenda Belicove, a veteran of both inn keeping and the Mount Snow / Deerfield Valley region. Under her guidance, the Inn has evolved from just another place to stay to one of the region’s up and coming inns.Glenda was born in Flushing, New York, raised in Bayside, NY. She attended Ithaca College in upstate New York where she studied Speech Therapy. Glenda has three grown children, enjoys a good game of Scrabble, and is admittedly addicted to her nearby cousin’s two young children, hand-held electronic games, and the Internet.

Stay tuned because there’s more to come, including information on:
